She walks through how people are actually building careers with dogs — what the work looks like day to day, what it really takes to start, and why the thing standing in your way is usually smaller than it feels from here.

Masterclass: The 5 Secrets Behind Building a Meaningful Career Working With Dogs

The five ideas stand on their own, so you can break this across a couple of sittings without losing the thread. Everything further down this page is what putting them into practice actually looks like.

Wild Hearts Dog Club™ exists to turn a quiet dream into a meaningful life you actually look forward to waking up for.

Sound familiar?

Maybe you've caught yourself thinking…

  • I'm successful on paper — but something feels missing.
  • I feel like I'm meant for more than this.
  • I've ignored my passion for too long.
  • Retirement is coming, and I still haven't done what I truly love.
  • I still haven't found my people.
  • I don't want to spend the next ten years wondering “what if?”

For many people, dogs become the doorway back to themselves. Not because dogs solve every problem — but because they reconnect us with purpose, passion, nature, adventure, connection, and life itself.

And maybe that’s why you’re here.

What if your life could actually look different?

Every face below is one of our students, out with a pack of their own. Each of them started exactly where you are.

What if your future wasn’t something you settled for — but something you built?

Most people think they have to choose.

  • A meaningful life or a profitable one
  • Purpose or income
  • Freedom or security

But what if that isn’t true?

$400–$800 a day

What many of our students earn while building businesses centered on dogs, purpose, and freedom.

They aren’t just earning money. They’re creating lives they’re excited to wake up to.

And ultimately, that’s what Wild Hearts Dog Club™ is about. Not simply working with dogs.

Building a life that feels like yours.

It starts with one decision.

You don’t need to have it all figured out

One of the biggest misconceptions people carry sounds like this:

“I could never do this.”

What people picture

  • Massive facilities
  • Hundreds of acres
  • Years of experience
  • Advanced certifications
  • Huge investments

Where most actually started

  • A garage or a basement
  • Local walking trails
  • Limited experience
  • Low confidence
  • One dog, one client

Small beginnings become beautiful lives.

You don’t need your entire future figured out right now. You only need to decide whether you’re willing to begin.

These students started exactly where you are

Burnt out after 10 months

“I had just graduated college and I was making good money, I had full benefits but I lasted 10 months. I was burnt out. I had taken the My Dog Camp course with the idea that I was just going to do it for fun on weekends. I really saw how fun running my own dog camp was, how flexible it could be and the joy it brought my own dog. I also loved seeing how much joy it brought my client’s dogs being outside. Being stuck indoors was something I struggled with at my old job, because I was at a desk for eight hours. I’m full time running camp one year out from the course and I’m full! I have a waitlist of dogs trying to get in! I started off part time and now I have over 30 clients so it’s pretty cool to see how you can grow your business!”

One year from burnt out to fully booked.

VT Dog Treks

First-time business owner

“I had hesitations. Is this something I can really do? Are people going to hire me? Why would they hire me? But that’s also why I wanted to take the course, I felt like it gave me that edge. Having a camp is amazing, it’s like a dream! I get to wake up, spend my day with dogs, make my own schedule, work on my time, and make a legitimate living doing something that I really love and that makes me happy. I’m not angry and stressed out after this long workday at the office. I just feel happy and I feel good. I spent a couple of months debating back and forth and the moment I went for it, all this stress just melted off. Make the decision and go all in because it’s so worth it!”

Never started a business before? Neither had Lyndsay.

Left vet med and shelter work

“I worked as a vet tech assistant for a couple years then got a job at a shelter. After leaving shelter work I reached out to my old vet practice about coming back because dog related options are slim around my area. I ultimately chose to take the course because I was so burnt out from rescue work and the vet med field has always been full of abuse from clients. For me the transition was easy. Camp has allowed me to focus on my physical and mental health in a way vet med would not have allowed. There is no guilt or pressure to show up when I need time off and I am financially in a much better place so it has alleviated that burden as well.”

Leaving vet med or rescue work? You wouldn’t be the first.

Already had a dog walking business

“I was walking 7–10 dogs a day and started to feel overwhelmed because I needed some help with my dogs. Some of them were picking on other dogs, fights broke out for what I thought was no reason. I could tell some of them were stressed and they were stressing out others. I was struggling until another dog walker in my area suggested your course. The course is such a low cost to start a business and it helps so much. If I could have used the techniques in the course on day one, I would have saved so much money, stress and so much time in the first few years of building my dog walking business.”

Already walking dogs? This is the part nobody taught you.

Left vet med

“I’m very passionate about medicine, but went into the career knowing the average career span of a vet tech is 5 years due to burnout. I started dog camp as supplemental income, with the goal of having it be an option for me to leave vet med. My mental health is worlds better running a dog camp. It was very emotional to step back from vet med but the results of improved quality of life speak for themselves.”

If you’re already working with dogs but feeling overwhelmed, there’s a healthier path.

Already had a business

“I wish I did the course sooner, it was so amazing… I was ready to learn, I needed to learn. I use an 11 acre rented space and my mom’s backyard for my play groups which has been so nice and I’m so fortunate for that. I’ve learned so much from the course. It doesn’t matter if you’re just thinking about getting into dogs or if you’ve had a business like I did — the course is invaluable. You learn so much.”

Experience helps. It doesn’t replace a system.

Started near retirement

“I took the course nearly two years ago and have been working with dogs full-time ever since. Without My Dog Camp, this would not have been possible. Rhonda’s knowledge and her support have been invaluable. If you are thinking about a new career working with dogs, sign up for this program. At the end, you will gain the knowledge and confidence needed to lead your own dog packs!”

It’s never too late to begin — JR started as retirement approached.

Out-earning the career she left

“Today I am the happiest I have ever been in my career. Green Mountain Canine Camp has flourished into a bustling small business where I’m making more than my traditional career! I get to spend every day with my best fur friend and a pack of other amazing dogs. I would never have taken the leap into starting my own dog camp if it weren’t for Rhonda, and I am forever grateful for her knowledge and support!”

A career built on her own terms, not handed to her.

Buddy’s Buddies Dog Camp

Started with little dog experience

“If there was one thing I knew I loved in life it was dogs. The My Dog Camp Course was a perfect fit for me; an over-enthusiastic, unorganized person, with little dog experience. The My Dog Camp course helped me finally start a business where I could be really happy spending my days with dogs and living out my entrepreneurial dreams!”

You don’t need years of dog experience to begin.

Tranquil Dog Care and Camp

More control over her time

“My dog business has given me financial stability and the flexibility to take off as many days as I want. Each year I take a month off plus a few two week vacations. I don’t have any friends with that kind of freedom in their schedule. My Dog Camp was a true blessing for this adventure seeking dog lover!”

If you’ve always wanted more control over your schedule, a dog business can change your life and your happiness.

Peck’s Adventure Pack

Talked out of it, went anyway

“I almost didn’t take the course because my mom thought it wasn’t a good idea. Now she laughs about it because she sees how successful my business has become. My advice? If you’re on the fence, just do it.”

The people doubting you now tend to come around.

Alexx laughing as one of her dogs reaches up to her face

Chance’s Canine Club

Followed the program, start to finish

“The course truly will equip you with the skills that you need. I’m not anything special. I’m not this like magical dog whisperer. I just took the course and I followed the program. It genuinely is the most positive life change I’ve ever made!”

No special gift required — just the system, followed.

Sara of Green Mountain Canine Camp: “I lacked a lot of self confidence… I proved to myself I was capable of more than I could realize.”
Emma of Mountain Ridge Dog Pack: “This is the best money I’ve ever spent on myself.”
JR of Green Bandana Dogs: “No one’s going to pay me to hike… I was wrong. Within a year I was at near capacity.”
Brie of Ex Pawditions: “Randomly I would have fights break out… the course gave me my life back.”
Erica of Southern Berkshire Dog Camp: “I was a middle school teacher — burnt out, exhausted, underpaid and under-appreciated and miserable…”
Alexx of Chance’s Canine Club: “I’m not this magical dog whisperer, I just took the course and if I can do it, you can do it too.”
Cassidy of Rebel Dog: “I never knew I could turn my love for dogs into a career.”
Lyndsay of VT Dog Treks: “Sometimes I still feel like I’m in a dream, like this is really the life I get to live.”
Sara of Parker Hill Paws: “It’s been life changing, life saving…”
Valerie of Adventure Doggie: “I applied to vet school and didn’t get in… everyone was like you’re never going to make a career out of being an animal trainer.”
Chelsea of Buddy’s Buddies: “I love science but I do not love sitting in a lab all day… it was not making me happy.”
Amber of Tail Blazers Dog Camp: “What I love most is the flexibility to be with my family.”

One student’s path

From supplement labs to a waitlist of her own

Jess Gorham took My Dog Camp™, adapted it indoors, and built the day school she now co-teaches inside S.A.F.E. School for Dogs™.

Jess Gorham holding one of her dogs, beside a room of dogs resting calmly on cots at her day school

01

The before

The corporate path that wasn’t working

Everything that looks good on paper: a BS in Animal Science and Psychology from UVM, hands-on years in a busy dog daycare during her studies, and a respected role as top formulation specialist at a large animal supplement company. Stable. Predictable. Not what she wanted to do with her days.

02

The decision

From My Dog Camp™ graduate to her own day school

Jess graduated from My Dog Camp™ under Rhonda and saw something nobody was building: a structured indoor version of the same group socialization method that worked outdoors. She adapted every principle into a day-school operating model and started with four dogs in her own space. Then five. Then six.

03

The now

A four-day week. A waitlist. A career.

Three years in, A Dog’s Trail runs four days a week, takes 10–12 dogs a day, and holds a steady waitlist of clients waiting on the next opening. Jess earns more than her corporate salary and owns her schedule.

“The My Dog Camp Online Course helped me leave my well-paying job. I now work out of my own space socializing dogs and I’m making more than I was at my ‘stable’ corporate job. There is no ceiling here — nothing is fixed.”
Jess Gorham · Founder, A Dog’s Trail

Full circle

Jess now co-teaches S.A.F.E. School for Dogs™ alongside Rhonda — turning what she built into the system that helps the next generation of day school owners build theirs.

Your guide

Hi, I'm Rhonda 💛

18 years ago, I was 24 years old working night shifts at a liquor store and gas station, wondering if this was really what adulthood was supposed to feel like.

I had no dog training experience, no business degree, and no special advantage. I just knew I loved dogs, loved being outside, and wanted more freedom than the life I was living.

So I started learning.

Within three years, I went from zero experience to confidently leading packs of 20 dogs off-leash through the mountains of Vermont — and building a business that gave me real income, freedom, and work I genuinely loved.

But here's the part I want you to know:

I wasn't naturally gifted at this. I learned it.

I spent years studying, practicing, making mistakes, learning from incredible trainers, and figuring out the systems that made managing groups of dogs safely and successfully possible.

Eventually, I became a professional dog trainer and canine socialization specialist. And after nearly two decades in this industry, I realized I could give other dog lovers something I never had:

A roadmap.

That's why I created Wild Hearts Dog Club™.

I've taken the skills, systems, business lessons, and hard-earned experience that took me years to piece together and turned them into a step-by-step path for people who want to build a career around dogs.

You don't need to already be a dog trainer.
You don't need a business degree.
And you definitely don't need to be “naturally good” at this.

You need a love for dogs, a willingness to learn, and someone to show you the path.

I created what I wish existed when I was 24.

If you've got the passion, we've got the path.

Rooting for you,
Rhonda

Meet Jess

Jess is a professional dog trainer, canine socialization expert, and the co-creator of S.A.F.E. School for Dogs™.

With a B.S. in Animal Science and Psychology from the University of Vermont, Jess has always been fascinated by the science behind behavior — not just what works with dogs, but why it works.

Her education quickly became hands-on experience. While in college, Jess worked in a busy dog daycare, where she trained and managed hundreds of dogs and developed a deep understanding of canine behavior, group dynamics, and socialization. She later became the top formulation specialist at a large animal supplement company, further sharpening the analytical, research-driven approach she brings to dog training today.

After graduating from My Dog Camp™, Jess took what she had learned about structured socialization and adapted it for an indoor environment. She started her day school in a large warehouse, but quickly discovered that bigger wasn’t better. She found dogs in her day school program actually thrived in smaller, more intentional spaces — eventually trading the warehouse for her garage.

Five years later, that business has given Jess the opportunity to train countless dogs, refine her methods in the real world, and develop an indoor socialization system that became the foundation for S.A.F.E. School for Dogs™, which she co-created with Rhonda.

Today, Jess owns and operates A Dog’s Trail in Vermont, where she continues to train dogs and put these systems into practice every day. She brings together science, hands-on experience, and five years of running her own dog business to teach WHDC students how to understand dogs more deeply, manage groups safely, and build structured day school programs of their own.

Two signature programs. One club.

Wild Hearts Dog Club™ is a membership community for people who want to build a meaningful life working with dogs.

Not another dog training course — a whole ecosystem around the work.

All of it with ongoing support, mentorship, and guidance as you go.

Until now, the only way into this work was to buy My Dog Camp™ or S.A.F.E. School for Dogs™ separately, at around $2,000 each. Over 250 dog lovers have used them to build careers doing work they actually love.

The club brings both programs together — plus live coaching, certification pathways, and a community of people chasing the same thing — for a fraction of what they cost on their own.

The numbers

What could this look like financially?

You don’t need 50 dogs. You don’t need hundreds of acres. You don’t need a giant facility. Many students start with just a few dogs and grow from there.

Example scenarios

Dog Camp

At $40 per dog, per day

3 dogs × $40/day$120/day
5 dogs × $40/day$200/day
10 dogs × $40/day$400/day
15 dogs × $40/day$600/day

Day School

At $60 per dog, per day

3 dogs × $60/day$180/day
5 dogs × $60/day$300/day
10 dogs × $60/day$600/day
15 dogs × $60/day$900/day

The question isn’t

“Can this make money?”

The better question is

“What version of this fits the life I want to create?”

Some members want

  • A few dogs per week
  • Part-time income
  • Retirement income

Others want

  • Full-time income
  • Career replacement
  • A thriving dog business

The beauty is that you get to decide.

Or both — the hybrid model

Many members eventually combine the two, running outdoor packs some days and structured indoor groups on others.

And whichever you pick, the foundation underneath is the same. Both programs are built on the Mastering Canine Socialization System™ — reading a pack in real time, pairing dogs by temperament, and leading a group safely. S.A.F.E. School for Dogs™ goes further into the science behind the training, but the core skill is one skill. Learn it once and it holds, whether you change models later, move, or start again somewhere new.

You don’t have to decide today. You already have everything you need to get started. You simply have to begin.

You may be thinking…

But what if I can’t do this where I live?

This is one of the first questions most people ask. It’s also, usually, the wrong one.

Most people ask

“Can I do this?”

Successful people ask

“What version of this works where I live?”

Inside Wild Hearts Dog Club™ we help you explore possibilities you may not know exist yet. Depending on your location, that might include:

Most successful dog professionals don’t start with the perfect setup. They start by identifying what’s available and building from there.

That’s why Finding Private Land & Space 101 is included in the club — walking you through locations, facilities, zoning considerations, creative partnerships, and opportunities that fit your circumstances. You may be surprised how many options appear once you look through the lens of possibility rather than limitation.

The goal isn’t to force your life into someone else’s business model. The goal is to build a dog business that fits your life.

Your location. Your circumstances. Your goals. Your version of success.

Plus: monthly live coaching with Rhonda

The curriculum is self-paced, but you are not on your own with it. Once a month Rhonda takes the club live — pack leadership, dog psychology, and whatever is actually happening on your walks that month. Bring a question about a specific dog, or listen in on everyone else’s. Every call is recorded, so missing one costs you nothing — and if you can’t make it live, send your questions in beforehand and we’ll do our best to answer them on the call. Included with every membership.

Plus: monthly live coaching with Jess

Jess Gorham runs her own live call each month, covering the day school side — room setup, group structure, intake, safety, and the operational questions that only come up once you have dogs in the building. Recorded as well, so you can watch back any time — and questions sent in ahead of the call get answered on it. Included with every membership.

The Doggie Meditation Method™

A fast, step-by-step online method for teaching a dog how to truly relax — worked through from the comfort of your own home. For a pack owner it is the difference between removing a dog that can’t settle and helping that dog settle in, which means more dogs stay in your pack and more clients stay on your books.

Your path forward

From dog lover to pack professional.

  1. Understand Dogs
  2. Learn to Safely Train & Manage a Pack
  3. Build a Business

Four steps. One proven path. The pace is yours.

01

Understand the dog

Learn to see what other people miss.

Start with dog psychology, emotional states, body language, communication, learning theory, play styles and social behavior — so you understand why a dog behaves the way they do and what they need from you.

02

Learn to train

Turn understanding into real handling skills.

Learn the training systems behind recall, leash communication, relaxation, boundaries, stationing, confidence and pro-social behavior — the skills that prepare individual dogs to succeed within a group.

03

Build + lead your pack

Go from one dog to confidently managing many.

Learn how to evaluate dogs, choose compatible temperaments, conduct trial days, make safe introductions and shape group behavior. You don't start with a giant pack. We teach you how to build one.

04

Build the business

Turn your new skills into a career.

Learn how to set up your space, find land if you need it, attract clients, price and market your services, create policies, handle insurance and contracts, and build the systems behind a real Dog Camp or Day School.

You don't need to know how to do any of this before you join. That's the point.

And when you have questions or get stuck, that’s exactly what the community is there for.

Fast-acting bonus

The Monthly Membership Model Framework™

Structure your dog business the way a children’s daycare works.

Clients pay up front, by the month, for a place in your program — not per day, after the fact. Your income is set before the month begins instead of counted up at the end of it.

  • Clients pay up front, monthly — for a place in your program, not a day at a time
  • Paid and sick time off, built in — you pick the weeks you close, and the income doesn’t stop with you
  • A last-minute cancellation costs you nothing — you are paid whether or not the dog shows up
  • Revenue you can predict before the month even begins
  • Fewer gaps to scramble and fill at the last minute
  • Steadier income through the slow season, not just the busy one

$1,800+

added to your bottom line in the first year you run it.

This ONE bonus alone is worth the equivalent of 4 YEARS inside WHDC

This one is separate from the 5-day enrollment window: it’s yours if you join within your first 24 hours on this page. Results depend on your market, your rates, and how you run it.

Join Wild Hearts Dog Club™ risk-free for 30 days

Join, complete the First 30 Days training, come to the live calls, and genuinely put the material into practice. If you don’t feel more confident, more knowledgeable, and better prepared to work with dogs, we’ll make it right.

To qualify, members must

  • Remain enrolled for the full 30 days
  • Complete the First 30 Days training
  • Attend at least one live coaching call — or post your questions in the community
  • Show reasonable effort to put the material into practice

We believe the biggest risk isn’t joining the Club. The biggest risk is being exactly where you are a year from now, still wondering whether you could have turned your passion for dogs into something more.

Before you ask

The questions you’re already asking

What if I don’t have experience working with dogs?

Most members don’t when they start. A better question might be:

How much experience did the people who are successful now have when they began?

Many of our most successful students started with little or no professional experience. They didn’t begin because they were experts — they became experts because they began. Inside Wild Hearts Dog Club™ we build it up step by step:

  • Management
  • Training
  • Behavior modification
  • Socialization
  • Dog communication
  • Emotional regulation
  • Business building
  • Leadership & observation

You’ll never be expected to know everything on day one.

What if I don’t have a facility?

Many successful members started with far less than you’d expect. Instead of asking “what if I don’t have the perfect location?”, ask:

What location do I already have access to that could help me get started?

  • A small fenced yard
  • A garage
  • A basement
  • Local walking trails
  • A rented space
  • A community facility
  • A hybrid model

We’ll help you explore the options that fit your circumstances.

What if my neighbors complain about the noise?

A fair concern — and almost never the problem people expect. So:

How do I build a business that prevents problems before they become complaints?

A day school runs while most neighbors are at work, and a bark is no louder — and far less frequent — than the lawnmower next door. Neighborhood noise comes from dogs left outside, unsupervised and untrained. A professional day school works differently:

  • Hand-selected dogs
  • No chronic barkers
  • Structured days
  • Engaged and exercised

Many of our students’ neighbors are shocked to learn there’s a dog business next door — because it’s that peaceful.

What if I don’t have a lot of money to start?

Many members start extremely small. The better question is:

What’s the smallest version of this I could start?

Often that looks like one client. One dog. One day per week. One service.

You don’t need a massive investment. You need momentum. Most successful businesses aren’t built all at once — they’re built one client at a time.

What does membership cost?

Three ways in, all with the same full access:

  • $42/month — billed monthly, cancel anytime, no minimum commitment.
  • $420/year — two months free compared to monthly.
  • $2,497 lifetime access — one payment, nothing renews.

Bought separately, My Dog Camp™ and S.A.F.E. School for Dogs™ are $1,997 each. Every plan is covered by a 30-day money-back guarantee, and founding member pricing stays locked in for as long as you stay.

What if I don’t know how to get clients?

Most people don’t when they begin. The better question:

How are other ordinary people finding clients?

  • Referrals
  • Word of mouth
  • Social media
  • Local partnerships
  • Community networking

Many students get their first clients long before they feel fully ready — and we show you how to market your business inside Wild Hearts Dog Club™.

What if I’m not entrepreneurial?

Many people assume successful business owners are born different. They’re not — most simply learned the skills. So:

Can entrepreneurship be learned?

Absolutely. Inside the club we teach:

  • Marketing
  • Pricing
  • Client attraction
  • Systems
  • Business setup
  • Growth strategies

You don’t need a business degree. You need a proven road map.

What if dogs fight?

This is one of the biggest fears people have. It’s also one of the reasons we teach structured socialization. The question isn’t “how do I stop dogs from ever disagreeing?” It’s:

How do I create groups that set dogs up for success?

  • Dog evaluations
  • Different Play Styles Blueprint™
  • The Golden Rule™
  • Dog Pack Training System™
  • S.A.F.E. Dog Socialization System™
  • Stress recognition
  • Management systems
  • Socialization readiness

You’ll also learn when to reach for management, training, or behavior modification. The goal isn’t luck. The goal is skill.

What if I’m too old?

One of our students, JR, joined as he approached retirement and has worked with dogs ever since. A better question:

What if the next chapter of my life became my favorite chapter?

Some people discover their dream career at 20. Others discover it at 40, 50, 60, or beyond. The dogs don’t care how old you are. They care how present you are.

What if I’m scared?

That’s normal. Almost everyone you see succeeding today started scared. A better question might be:

What would happen if I trusted myself enough to begin?

Fear is usually a sign that something matters. The goal isn’t to eliminate it. The goal is to move forward despite it.

What if I don’t have everything figured out?

Perfect. Neither did most of our students, and neither did I when I first started. Nobody gets clarity first and then begins — most people begin and then gain clarity.

What if I don’t need all the answers before I begin?

Often the answers appear after you take action. And when it all feels like too much at once, the only question that matters is “what’s my next step?” That’s what the coaching, the mentorship, and the community are for — helping you focus on the step in front of you rather than the next hundred.

What if this actually works?

This may be the most important question of all. What if, six months from now…

  • You feel more confident.
  • You understand dogs better.
  • You’re helping dogs every week.
  • You’re earning income doing something meaningful.
  • You’re surrounded by people who understand your passion.
  • You’re building a life you’re excited to wake up to.

Because that’s what Wild Hearts Dog Club™ is really about. Not just learning about dogs. Building a life you love alongside them.

Honest check

Who this is really for

You'll fit right in if…

  • You love dogs in a way most people find slightly excessive
  • You want a business, not another job with a different boss
  • You're willing to learn the systems and actually run them
  • You'd rather be outside — or running a room full of dogs — than at a desk
  • You're starting from scratch, or you already walk dogs and want to grow it into something real

It's probably not for you if…

  • You're looking for a quick, passive income idea
  • You want obedience drills and command lists
  • You want someone to build the business for you
  • You're only here to train your own dog — start with our owner programs instead

You've been thinking about it long enough.
